Blossoming flower and 3D printing can be a wonderful combination in artists' eyes. French designer Patrick Jouin created his striking Bloom Table Lamp using 3D printing technology.
His design is inspired by MGX's One_Shot.MGX stool. Just like how flowers respond to their environment, with a little push the lamp can be opened or closed to release or contain light.
The designs for .MGX lampshades are generated from a computer file, which is then sent to a SLS 3D printer. The lamp is 3D printed with PA – Polyamide (Nylon) as a single piece, including the hinging mechanisms that transforms the shade from a bud to a blossoming flower. This 3D printing process allows for freedom of design far beyond the capacity of traditional manufacturing technologies.
Same as other beautiful 3D printed arts, this beautiful lamp is also not cheap: it costs €2,400 (£1,907 / US$3,012). Nevertheless, again with the complexity of its design, the Bloom lamp succeeds in pushing even further the boundaries of 3D technologies.
